The Big Picture

Welcome back dear reader, we trust you have begun the start of Season 2025/26 with the annual mix of hope, optimism and delusion.

This summer will be The Quokkas 16th (?) in the YPCA. Where once we were the young, brash, talentless kids in town, we are now older and still without talent.

The YPCA organised (and sanctioned) T10 competition was cancelled due to lightning in the skies, rather than the sort on the field, so this match will be our first of the season.

The Big Picture

…And so we come to the last YPCA regular-season game of what has felt like a very busy season. A look back at the stats shows that we haven’t played that many matches; we’ve had one rained off and one interrupted by rain.

That being said, we’ve travelled to Harrow, played in a YPCA 10-over thing, enjoyed the Bat Bar, and had a few ripper training sessions too.

The Big Picture

The Quokkas go into their second match of 2025 with an 0-1 record and an “oh what fun” mindset. The first game of 2025, against The Curtin, was played in appalling conditions, with lightning and occasional downpours causing us to be on-and-off more often than Rachel and Ross.

As a result, we did only manage a 17-over game, so this Sunday should be our first actual YPCA match for the year. Huzzah.

The Big Picture

Hello to 2025. We are now into the 15th season of The Quokkas (Australian edition), which is still providing laughs and entertainment, with some story and character arcs developing and others being as flat as the horizon.

We kick off this year with a game against our old friends, The John Curtin Hotel. We’ve had a number of memorable games against The Curtin, not least; their first win, Rowdy’s 84*, their last game in the league*, my first 6 (that was actually caught by man-mountain Cassidy on the boundary), and many more.

Match Facts

Date: Sunday, November 3, 2024
Location: Johnny Mullagh Oval, Harrow, VIC
Time: 1pm start

The Big Picture

A bit of a big weekend coming up, not only will this be the 15th year of The Quokkas in Australia, but it will also be a visit to a very significant place in Australian and Cricketing circles.

For those not in the know, Harrow is the home of Johnny Mullagh and many of the Indigenous Australians that made up the unofficial 1868 tour to England. This was the first Australian cricket tour to England, was made up completely of Indigenous players and, amongst other things, was completely unauthorised by Australian authorities (such that they were at the time).
