Quokkas 214-2 (Haider 94, Rashid 56 no, Saad 47) beat Whalers & Spelthouse combined XI 144-4 (Umair 3-17, Haider Jr 2-17)

It’s October. I didn’t attend this match and there is pretty much no pre-match chat on the Whatsapp group. This is going to be a classic match report. Prior to the game there was great concern about a potential clash with England playing in the World Cup final. We need not have worried. Firstly, Tuchel fucked it up, which allowed the bloody Argies to go through and create the worst final since 1994. Secondly, the game in question was the Whalers and that was postponed due to lack of players.

No hang on, the Whalers ganged up with Spelthouse, so the game was back on.

Tuchel still fucked it up though, so there was no clash. More good news. Faggie has found Gryphon on Spotify. Egg and Evil are also fans. The bad news is Professor did himself a mischief fly-tipping a toilet. Eight stitches apparently. More bad news. Sir Garfield Sobers died. I feel bad including that in this silly match report, but it’s too late now. Seagull couldn’t attend as Mrs Seagull had taken him to the seaside. Paolo

was in Atlanta. Not sure where everyone else was. Rashid bought cricket ball. No, Ali bought it. It was a red one… where is my Pulitzer?

Let’s get to the cricket. The Quokkas team was almost exclusively from Birmingham. Well done Jatin for representing London at this game in London. We batted first. Haider ran riot, scoring 94. Saad scored 47 and Rashid was 56 not out. Chasing 214, our opponents stodged their way to 144-4. By the looks of things, the bowing was far tighter than normal. Seagulls at the seaside, Eggs listening to Spotify and Paolo’s watching England play will have helped enormously.

Umair appears to have taken three wickets. I didn’t even know he could bowl. Well done sir. I thought Haider Jr had dislocated his shoulder? It didn’t stop him taking the other wicket. I only count 27 overs bowled, which is a strange number. Perhaps there were 6 run outs? I suspect someone has been left off the scorecard. There is an unnamed Quokka that bowled two overs, no wickets for 22 runs. Paolo, did you make it after all?

Let’s move on. The Quokkas win.

Seagull.
