Quokkas CC 191-5 (Rashid 60, Haider 42, Slick 29no, Saad 26) beat Belhaus CC 160-8 (Seagull 3-26, Rashid 3-29, Radio 1-29)

Prior to the game the discussion was whether the Bulgarian Eurovision Song Contest entrant, Dara, was the singer we saw in the nightclub full of gangsters in Sofia. Seagull, too drunk to notice that the lives of all Quokkas in the club were in serious jeopardy said no, that was Emilia. Funny how these vital pieces of information are retained.

We are back in Essex once again (don’t forget your bag, don’t forget your bag), hoping for a return of the KFC-enthused tea. It never materialised, sadly. In fact, there was no tea. We were also missing our topless sunbathing champagne drinker beyond the boundary rope. He was probably at the West Ham game, which seemed to have attracted half the village to clubhouse to watch on their big screen.

Our opponents are normally pretty strong, and the pitch decent, so Seagull didn’t mess about and lost the toss. Thankfully we were put in to bat. Rashid and Haider opened and got us off to a brilliant start. Rashid passed fifty in no time at all and Haider was just short of his half century before he got out. We lost Faggie and Umair cheaply, but Saad and Slick settled any nerves by adding fifty more runs.

191 seemed a decent enough total, but with Evil Dave injured, we were a little lacking in the bowling department. When Faggie announced at we walked out to the middle that he too was injured, I thought I might have to open the bowling.

Thankfully, Faggie grew a pair and bowled seven on the trot in one of his better opening spells. At the other end, Jatin bowled a tremendous spell of seven overs for just 20 runs. The only thing missing was wickets, but Rashid and Seagull, both bowling lengthy spells themselves, claimed six between them. If you fancy watching a spin masterclass, it’s available here:

Skip, watching from afar noted there were two wicket maidens in Seagull’s spell. Professor noted that a (*G) was missing from the scorebook. In true Sri Lankan style more spin came into the ‘attack’ in the form of Egg and Radio, and their mix of flight and turn meant our opponents didn’t get close to our score.

Big thanks to Evil Dave for playing despite being injured. 150 caps in no time. Saad, we need your details for the club’s medical report, oh, and I hope the hand heals.
