Big thanks to the Happiest Animals for our turn out Sunday 18/01 to play Pub Cricket in a balmy 30 degrees with the Rainbow Trash Pandas 🐼. What a day out!
As hosts, the quokkkas put on a feast fit for the occasion. Big thanks to Rev and Amy - many happy tums. All agreed that it was good to eat.
We had two debutants for the Quokkas. Ollie has put his name up for the record of longest days between pub cricket games - a few decades since his last game when he was 11! This dwarfed Mitchell Starc’s measly 4036 days between bbl matches. We love your enthusiasm and getting around the game Ollie!
A debutant for pub cricket and the Quokkas - now known as James put his hand up retiring on 30, a sharp catch in the outfield and threw down his overs. Fielded with vigour too!
Amazing to see both debutants ambling to the Rainbow to relive the plays of the day.
Gareth rolled in for his second game - a casual 25 as an opener, a wicket, kept half the innings - and his stats undersell the performance with three chances dropped off his second over alone. Looks hungry for more.
Prez stabilised the innings and saw out setting the total with an unbeaten 28(26), and the barefoot bowling took the fielders out of the equation rolling through the leg stump.
An entertaining passage of play was the Trash Panda’s batter (maybe Jules?) two shots to short mid wicket. He elected to play these shots with his bat. And upped the ante with the second also having a high edge where the ball and the bat floated similar aerial arcs with the ball landing safely through Fargo’s gloves.
Not to be outdone in the catching, Jason Dunstall steamed on for a powerful chest mark after the ball snuck through the captains reliably unsafe hands - one of 4 catches the captain put down for the day. This was also an exemplary example of clear communication between the four closest Quokkas - our training is paying off.
The sexetary was unhappy with his batting (20), but he boosted the Quokkas score with a solid partnership with Prez, albeit, I am sure he slept soundly with 2 wickets, including rattling the stumps.
All in all, plenty of fun moments in a day out for the Pub Cricket. No doubt some smiles, burnt skin and a few bulging haemorrhoids after this outing.
Next fixture up is in three weeks 08/02 at WJ Cox Oval vs the pinnies for ball searching in prime snake season.
Your days captain, Hendo
