Match Report: Empress Quokkas CC v Pinnacle Hotel

Posted by Quokkas Cricket Club on Sunday, February 8, 2026

Date: Sunday, 8th February 2026
Location: W.J. Cox Oval
Time: 1.30p.m. start
Captain: Dusty

Conditions

32 degrees with a threat of a storm which never really occurred – the pitch was the greenest part of the ground with the surrounding outfield extremely dry. A fast outfield for sure.

Fielding

An abnormal sighting for the quokkas with 14 team members arriving at the ground, allowing plenty of players to get a chance to have a drink during the warm day.

Our bowling was on the money from the start and was amazing to the end, there were four dismissals of Bowled during the innings including Ice getting the opener out for 2 (finishing on 1/6 off 2 overs). Although the highlight of Ice’s bowling was retiring hurt a person shorter than F1…

The Quokkas continued to dominate with the ball until the 20th over where we had The Pinnacle at 5/127. Then the run of drop catches occurred, potentially breaking an unspeakable record of dropped catches in the field.

Daisy managed to save some of humiliation by ensuring 2 batters hit to the fielders who hadn’t dropped a catch that game at the deep point area. However the Pinnacle still continued their attack and finished their batting innings at 8/170 at the end of the 25th over. An impressive fightback from the opposition!

Batting

Opening the batting the usual F1 and Radar, with a low-ish total, the gameplan was to stick to a boundary and a run each over, they managed to have an opening partnership of 49 after 5 overs, both falling short of the ever desired 30 NO. This was probably fueled by Gelder deciding to help the Pinnacle and fielding for their team as they were a player short. Either that or he was intimidating in his full whites.

Kev has shown that club cricket can be part of pub cricket and scored an unbeaten 35* at first drop after facing 29 deliveries. Questions are asked about the cricket top he was wearing…

F1 kindly loaned me his bat as Ed sledged F1: stating there are still a few more runs in it. Which it was clear there were. I scored my first ever retirement! I got 6,4,1,6,6,6 in consecutive deliveries. Retiring after 15 deliveries. (TBC: it was noted that his muscular display was reminscent of Marcus Stoinis - and apt observation).

Ed then got jealous and decided to finish the innings off in two deliveries scoring 4 and a 6 in the 21st over.

A good fun game followed by a drink at The Empress!
