The Big Picture

It’s already been a busy summer, with 3 YPCA games and a tour match (including a win!), so we go into this Sundays final YPCA game for 2025 with one eye firmly on the reclining sofa and thoughts focussed on the big mid-season training camp at the Bat Bar to come.

This match pits us against our old friends at The John Curtin Hotel, whose pub was facing closure some time ago, so we are very glad it has survived to enable the good times to continue – on and off the field.

Interestingly, we started 2025 with a game against The Curtin, so you could say that 2025 has been a Curtin sandwich – or curtwich if you will. You probably won’t.

Pitch and Conditions

The Quokkas return to WG Cox Oval on the Yarra Bend this week, which is within Dusty-straight-six distance of the lush surrounds of Fairfield Park oval, but still a world away. What you lose in green grass, you make up for in the risk of snakebite I suppose.

The forecast for Sunday is a lot better than our last game, where it rained for most of the day, leading me to spend as much of it under cover scoring as possible.

The temperature is 21 degrees with some cloud cover, so good for the seamers and those who burn easily.

Team News

Once again the week starts with hope eternal with a full XI available, but clinging on to that is about as safe as the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact.

We do welcome back Prez not only as our formidable swing bowler, but as our Captain. Prez is always great at the helm, the Quokkas definitely have more of a Fairstar the funship vibe with her, as opposed to the SS Minnow or the Carnival Sunrise.

The squad (at the time of writing & in no particular order) is:

  1. Prez (c)
  2. F1
  3. Ed
  4. Sizzle
  5. Rev
  6. Fargo (+)
  7. Dusty
  8. Nathan
  9. Ice
  10. TBC

If anyone wants a game, let us know.

Facts and Stats

Ahead of the last YPCA game of 2025, here we go with a few statistical updates:

  • Ed moved to 70 career YPCA wickets in the last game, a total that may well never be approached. It’s a real celebration of availability and ability. Well done, Ed;
  • This will be TBCs 20th YPCA match for the Quokkas, which is pretty impressive given his work & pinball commitments;
  • On milestone games, Dusty has played 30 total games for The Quokkas (19 YPCA, 4 BDNO, 7 other), while Jay has now played a total of 80 (57 YPCA, 8 BDNO, 15 other);
  • F1 has now passed the 400-YPCA-run mark, taking himself to 407. These have come at an average of 31 from 21 innings, including 46 fours and 4 sixes;
  • Sizzle has also passed the 300-YPCA-run mark and now sits on 304 career runs at an average of 15.2 from 23 innings with 29 fours and 6 sixes;
