The Big Picture

After a great weekend in Walhalla, the Empress Quokkas return enthusiastically to the YPCA and our old friends at The Rose Hote.

One of the founding members of the YPCA, we have played them intermittently through the years with some notable matches. These have included the debut of F1 (Quokka #111) and TBC (#112) in the same game!

This game gets us back into the YPCA-rules groove and as Madonna often repeated about the subject: “get into the groove, boy, you’ve got prove, your, pub-cricket love to me”.

Nathan is expected to join this list of rose debutants this weekend (he will be #149), which is also a very exciting to the group and stats.

Pitch and Conditions

After playing at Walhalla where sixes were banned (due to the risk of losing them in the scrub), I was thinking a similar rule should be brought in for Cox Oval with similar scrub and snake-related issues.

That being said, we are now wilderness ready having done our altitude and Bear Grylls training so should be in peak condition for this one.

We are expecting a sunny weekend with only a little rain, so little chance of being hail effected.

Team News

With no injuries reported from the ascent or descent at Walhalla, we have a full XI available at the time of writing, which could be extended to XII should Sizzle make it from the jumping castle and Jay make it from the Surf Life Saving competition in Coolangatta.

The squad (at the time of writing) is:

  1. Radar (c)
  2. Prez
  3. F1
  4. Ed
  5. Gelder
  6. Animal
  7. TBC
  8. Fargo
  9. Dusty
  10. Nathan
  11. Sizzle / Jay

Facts and Stats

Little to update here on the back of last weeks (non-YPCA) match, but here we go:

  • Gelder is on 44 YPCA runs, so only needs the 6 to raise his bat;
  • This will be Radars 70th YPCA innings, he showed some form last weekend and currently sits on 1,329 YPCA runs (avg 26.58), so could well top the 1,400 this season;
  • If he plays, Jay (962 YPCA runs @ 26.72) could very well eye off the short boundaries and hit the 1,000 with a retirement score;
  • Prez (94 YPCA runs @ 6.7) should crack the tonne if she plays to her average – similar for Dusty (95 YPCA runs @ 6.3);
  • TBC (9 YPCA wickets @ 30, 6.92 RPO), is well placed to crack 10 wickets in this or the next match with his average of 0.5 WPM. (TBC: I can definitely type faster than 0.5 WPM)
