Match Preview: Empress Quokkas CC v The Nomads

Location: Fairfield Park Oval
Time: 1.30 p.m. start
Captain: F1

The Big Picture

The Quokkas are coming off a win. That’s right, an actual win where they scored more than the other team in allotted overs and batters. I’m pretty sure that’s how this work, though it has been a while.

We come up against our old friends The Nomads again, who we actually managed a victory against in the none-too-distant past. That victory was even more surprising than our win last week given that we hadn’t got close to beating The Nomads in 15 years of pub competition to that point.

The last time we played them was also a close affair, coming down to the last over due to a special effort from our new President and this weeks Skipper, F1.

Look how happy he was!

In all, The Quokkas should go into this one with a bit of confidence, not least in their ability to have a bit of fun and enjoy the day out.

Pitch and Conditions

After having to endure the short boundaries and constant threat of snakes at Cox Oval, we return to the lush and open surrounds of Fairfield Park this week.

After a couple of nice days of sun, the weather has returned to type and we are expecting a top of 18 with up to 9mm of rain. We should get on, but its going to be stickier than the base of a gum tree in Autumn.

Team News

After starting the week with an abundance of players, we may have XI when we kick off this Sunday.

Facts and Stats
It turns out that I missed a few links in the old spreadsheet that I have now corrected, which has helped provide some interesting numbers:

  • For those not on the Quokka Chat WhatsApp Group;
    1. What’s wrong with you?
    2. What do you do with all your time?
    3. Jay knocked up his 1000th YPCA run last weekend. The TFB (is he still?) averages 26.89 with the bat, including 104 fours and 31 sixes (3rd highest overall). He also has only 17 not outs, which is 31% of his total innings – quite selfless!;
  • I racked up my 101st total Quokka match with the game at Walhalla (72 YPCA, 4 BDNO, 16 T20*, 7 VBCA, & 2 Sri Lankan matches) – the Rocky Ridge game was also The Animals 50th for the club – well done to the statesman (not the car, but yes, also to the car);
  • Radar should get his 100th this summer, he currently sits on 93 appearances;
  • Dusty hit his YPCA high score in the last game with 22 runs, this also took him to over 100 career runs and ROCKETED his average to 7.31;
  • Gelders 6 runs against the Rose took him to exactly 50 YPCA runs, which he has achieved at an exact average of 10;
  • Prez is 5 runs off 100 career YPCA runs, and given she averages 6, should get it this week. I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned her RPO average of 6.85 this week, so thought I should remind everyone of that;
  • Fargo has an average of 0.81 dismissals per match (catches + run outs), which is the 4th highest average for any Quokka with 10 or more matches behind Curto, Radar and Jazzron – all dedicated ‘keepers. A fair effort, that.
