Conditions
Five Sundays in a row that the day did not feature a lot of sun. It rained on the morning of the game with threats of further rain during the day. This reduced the match down to a 21 over game!
Fielding
After losing a couple of key Quokkas, we managed to recruit the nemesis of the Nomads – Brendan O’Sullivan who the previous week had smashed a score in the 30s in under 20 deliveries! This may have helped push us to win against the always formidable Nomads.
Threatened by rain, I decided to give everyone 1 over spells and every bowler seemed to think the best tactic would be to bowl short or on leg side. This caused every Nomad to hit leg side and forcing Gelder to accumulate approx. 3kms running between the various cones at square leg. To be fair, the batters were hitting with the wind and every shot seemed to get carried across the rope.
Notable moments during our fielding efforts were Maxy, who managed to bait two batters to hit to deep fine leg and get caught. Daisy was the first to catch one of these who managed to juggle the ball at least 6 times, at one point nearly doing a Prez and throwing it across the boundary before finally claiming the catch. Ed was professional and decided to catch it without making the rest of the Quokkas hold their breath.

On the other side of the family, Rev tried to take a mark at Mid-On from Brendan’s bowling. As the ball flew to Rev’s chest, Rev went down on one knee to catch the ball above his head – the ball then flying through his fingers.
It started raining heavily at the beginning of the 22nd over and the teams mutually agreed to end the innings and play a 21 over game.
Despite the brilliant bowling tactics of only bowling on the leg side, the Nomads managed to score 6/192 off 21 overs (including 4 retirees).

Batting
Opening the batting was Fargo and Brendan, it was clear they knew we needed to get off the mark at a decent rate. Almost every ball was an attempt giant swing with no contact, almost trying to air-dry their bats. Unfortunately we did not have the wind assistance that the Nomads were gifted with. They also knew how to bowl a bit fuller and on the off side.

Notable moments include Ed running out Animal in one of the strangest barbeques ever seen. There was a 17 ball over by the Nomads which included multiple no balls and a wicket. It was an over needed for the Quokkas as it added 14 to our score. The total no balls was 16 which outscored 7 of our dimissed batters!
Brendan was needed in the end as all the batters were dismissed however we fell short at the end of the innings with 9/136 after 21 overs.
It was a great game that ended with a drink at Paradise Alley
