First game of the season was against Rocky ridge
We kept them to 157 so the chase was a cinch

But the Quokkas were collapsing with wickets and woe
Until til the crease entered the wonder boy Hendo

The boy from Brunswick west was in the town
And the ridge bowlers were smashed all around

79 of the most glorious runs
Which through the gloom brought us the sun

The Big Picture

…And so we come to the last YPCA regular-season game of what has felt like a very busy season. A look back at the stats shows that we haven’t played that many matches; we’ve had one rained off and one interrupted by rain.

That being said, we’ve travelled to Harrow, played in a YPCA 10-over thing, enjoyed the Bat Bar, and had a few ripper training sessions too.

Conditions

It was hot, faaaaarkin hot. Our usual start time was moved from 12:30 to 47 degrees AEST.

Details

During the week we had more than a full squad. Come game day, we just scraped an XI together. Ice Man knows how to leave the ball but apparently not a 23rd beer the night before a match. Other withdrawals were more understandable but questionable nonetheless. Hair appointment anyone?

Introduction

The Quokkas knew it was going to be a warm one, expecting a 32°C day with clear skies and did it deliver! 13 teammates joined in the day which helped with allowing the rotations in the field, although whilst writing this sentence, that number could have been the omen to what was to come.

Introduction

Our Annual Pub v Club game is one that I look forward to every season, not simply because of the free beer that the Pub usually throws our way (and they certainly did with extra effort this year), but because it’s a great chance to welcome new people to the game and share the love that is Pub Cricket.
